Danny Hauser and His Mother Missing From Today,,s Court Hearing

Fleeing the Strong-arm Medical Tactics

13 year old Danny Hauser and his mother, Colleen Hauser, failed to show up today for their follow up hearing before a Judge in a New Ulm court house on the medical fate of Danny Hauser. The hearing was supposed to present the results of a chest x-ray that was taken yesterday, to be followed up by the Judge's decision as to whether and where Danny should have chemotherapy. Danny's father, Jerry Hauser, did show up in court but was unable to tell the packed court room where Danny and his mother could be. The prosecuting attorneys, who have won a judge's ruling to force Danny to undergo chemotherapy for his Hodgkin's lymphoma, grilled Jerry Hauser, for about a half an hour. But Jerry Hauser was unable to provide any clues as to where Danny and his mother had gone or why. A warrant has been issued for Colleen Hauser.

A wide array of state and national health freedom groups have expressed support for the rights of the Hauser family to determine how to best deal with Danny,,s challenge of cancer. Freedom of health choice is a right just as fundamental to us as is our religious freedoms and our freedoms of speech and of the press. Chemotherapy is a very harsh, toxic way to try to rid the body of cancer and we believe that everyone, including Danny Hauser, has the right to choose the kind of health care that he wants. It is a pitiful reflection on our governmental system that Danny and his mother have fled from their home and their family in order to escape forced chemotherapy if, indeed, that is what they have done. If Danny had not fled and, instead, forcibly resisted the administration of chemotherapy, would the judge and the oncologists have taken pleasure in forcibly administering chemo to a crying, angry 13 year old. &Don,,t people do better when they are actively involved in making their own informed choices and then pursuing the kind of health care that they believe in????

The comments on the part of many in the media have been demeaning towards the Hausers and their right to refuse chemotherapy. Often, the media commentary has said that, because the Hausers have invoked religious freedoms as part of their legal defense arguments, the Hausers are therefore blinded by their faith, are irrational, lacking in an appreciation of what is scientifically best and are endangering their child. None of that is true and such insinuations are a smear against these thoughtful, intelligent parents who have taken courage to do what they know is best for their son&..We urge that all supporters of health freedom call the media, weigh in, and speak out for freedom. If a boy and his mother have to flee in order escape government-forced medications, the bell tolls for the freedom of all of us.
